Stephen Burns

Dr Stephen Burns is an Associate Professor within the Physical Education and Sports Science Academic Group, National Institute of Education at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). He holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology from Loughborough University in the U.K. and has previously held posts at the University of Texas at El Paso and the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh in the U.S. before coming to NTU. He is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine. He serves as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Exercise Science & Fitness; as a member of the Editorial Board for the International Journal of Obesity and the International Journal of Sport Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism; and as a Review Editor for Frontiers in Nutrition, and for Frontiers in Sports and Active Living. Dr Burns’ research interests examine how physical activity can mitigate risk factors for cardiometabolic diseases and more recently he has conducted research into areas of sport nutrition, including the role of dietary supplements – caffeine and nitrate – in improving sports performance and the detrimental effects of low energy availability on performing sport. Internationally, Dr Burns collaborates with colleagues from the UK, US, Japan, Taiwan and New Zealand.

John Komar

Dr John Komar graduated from the University of Strasbourg (France) in 2008 and joined the University of Rouen (France) to undertake postgraduate studies and complete his PhD in 2013. He subsequently worked as a data scientist in the sports industry in the UK focusing on performance analysis in football, and came back to the academic in 2015 holding an assistant professor position of motor learning in Rouen (France). In 2018, he moved to Singapore to join Nanyang Technological University as an assistant Professor. His research interests include the functional role of movement variability in investigating motor expertise and motor learning, interpersonal coordination and performance analysis in team games, as well as the application of a constraints-led approach in pedagogy. He also conducts research and education on the use of data analytics and technology in sport, performance analysis and Physical Education.

Mike Climstein

Dr Mike Climstein is an academic specializing in clinical exercise physiology and exercise/sport science. He is an Associate Professor at Southern Cross University. Mike has published 154 peer-reviewed scientific publications, 14 book chapters, 6 peer-reviewed conference papers, 110 conference presentations/abstracts and attained over $7.8 million in research funding. His academic and clinical accomplishments have been peer recognized having has been awarded fellowship by the American College of Sports Medicine (FACSM), Sports Medicine Australia (FASMF) and Exercise and Sports Science Australia (FAAESS). Additionally, he is an Academic Editor for the Journal PeerJ, Editorial Board Member for Sports MDPI and reviewer for numerous sports science and medical journals. His current research involves surfing, skin cancer in surfers/swimmers/stand up paddle boarders, world master games/veteran athletes, physiological monitoring of athletes and patients with smart textiles and assessing punching and kicking power in black belt martial artists. Mike was recently recognized for academic excellence in teaching and research by Southern Cross University.

Ian Tim Heazlewood

Dr. Ian Heazlewood is an academic specialising in human movement, exercise and sport science for more than 30 years. He has also worked in private industry in health-related research. Extensive coach and research consultant roles for elite/high performance athletes, including past world champions, national and state champions and minor medallists across many sports and current national and state champions and minor medallists across many sports, especially masters athletics. These sports have included international master’s sports, athletics, rugby union, rugby league, weight/power lifting, squash, Australian and NSW BMX, Australian cricket and NSW and Australian Touch. Currently an NT high performance athletics coach and consultant to NT Athletics.
